About Us

Now in our 20th year!
Bozedown Alpacas - The Farm
Bozedown Alpacas was established in 1989, with a nucleus of 4 females and a stud male. The herd now stands at over 800, including about 100 suris, and is one of the leading alpaca studs in Europe. We led the improvement in the British Alpaca Industry by selecting and importing from Peru.

Bozedown Farm nestles at the foot of the Chilterns, alongside the Thames. We are proud of our Countryside Stewardship commitment for our rare species-rich chalk grassland (which the alpacas maintain in very good condition) and water meadow.

Mary-Jo, my niece and co-director, my daughter Claire (a leading camelid veterinarian), and myself have visited Peru and personally selected from herds of the best alpacas in the World, in order to widen the available genetics and improve British stock. We have also made other small selections from Peru, Canada and Australia.

We were the first to select our own alpacas in the Peruvian altiplano and prove that it was indeed possible to get Peruvian alpacas into the UK. Today our herd is 95% Peruvian.

The attention to detail ever since 1989 is paying dividends as our breeding programme produces many top prizewinners at the Shows year on year, demonstrating beyond doubt the supreme quality of Bozedown Alpacas.
